This is a true story of how Christina's Collectibles began. It started in a young girls mind around the age of five. Growing up on a farm as an only child I had a very large imagination to say the least. One of my favorite inspiring movies to watch again and again was, The Wizard of Oz. I would swing on my swing singing out the song "Somewhere over the Rainbow".
Going into town with my family there were two stores I would love to visit. One called "Over the Rainbow" of Morehead City, and the other in Cedar Point, Called "Billy's." Over the Rainbow had these cool headbands where you could interchange the letters on top, almost how everyones wearing the croc shoes today. Billy's store had the most amazing smells when you would walk in you would be dazzled at what your eyes could see! The most awe inspiring creation held in my mind was the lunch boxes Billy would make. She would take a simple plastic container, retrieve her magic markers, and write your name with a pretty design added.
At an early age I learned from this how meaningful personal touches truly are. As I grew older my parents began to build their dream home on the White Oak River. They made my room a little extra special. They added in-set shelving into the walls over my desk where I had three long shelves to put my collections.
I would collect things along my travels and although others may not have understood, the meaning was for me. I learned early on that it was more fun to "Mix" than to "Match." My Mother kept me busy creating an array of things. At the early age of eleven I was making baskets, jewelry, and all kinds of creations for my loved ones. I had a fearless gift for expressing!
In the 5th grade I received an award for being the most unique. I was sooo.. Proud! Although you won't find me making baskets or jewelry today, I do have an appreciation for ones who do. I enjoy the fact that someone is brave enough to finish a piece that calls out to them, and kind enough to share their expressions with the world. As I approached my early adult years, I still would dabble into different things.
As any young woman at the age of nineteen I was trying to find my way. At the early age of twenty I found myself being hurdled into being a business owner of a Hair Salon in Cedar Point, and shortly after turning it into a Day Spa. For six years I carried out this venture only to find that I had hit a wall. Soon after, following my ever-changing heart I bumped into the man of my dreams, which in a short four weeks later, we were happily engaged. Together we started a new venture where I found myself installing, and designing decorative concrete. Though, something was still missing for me.
With the missing link and a little money in my pocket, I decided to give my hearts desire a different rout. With the inspiration from the little collectibles I acquired along the way, Christina's Collectibles was created and the journey began.
My wish is, if you can take one thing away from my little story, know this.
